>>2302514The common saying is a pound on your foot is the equivalent to 5 on your back. This one German boot is similar to the Austrian one posted earlier here:
https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/austrian-kaz-03-combat-boots-surplus/64337Almost 5 pounds. I have tried and like White's, Nick's, and i'm sure Franks/Jakes are just as good. There is also Limmer (made by Meindl) and Jim Green if you want a value. But they all usually weight over 4 pounds. You can also get a heavy duty boot, rubber outsole, polyurethane midsole in the Prabos Field boot (German Para Boot) that is about 4 pounds and still a solid boot).
With the M77 you get something to about 3 pounds. Among other PU boots, Lowa/Meindl makes good stuff too ranging around 2 to 4 pounds.
Between Wildland and Military (US and European), most people are happier with the lighter weight boots. The EVA shit made by Salomon is so popular for that reason right now, even though they are not nearly as durable.
For me, I can just move faster with something like the M77 and still have the same protection. It dries fast overnight, and it is easier to customize the fit between a ranger of temperatures. If I buy two sizes big a welted boot becomes significantly heavier and more unwieldy to use with two pairs of socks, for example. This is something I could never do with my white's and nick's.
