Get a Gransfors. Put it in the oven at like 200 deg. Take it out with a towel and rub with beeswax. Be careful. Repeat a couple of times, making sure to get in the area where the head meets the wood. It'll soak in and make the axe water resistant.
Next, get some of these bastards and put a flat bevel and a mirror shine on it. Get a strop for getting it to a razor edge. Get it shaving sharp.
It'll eat wood. Totally different experience than any other axe I've owned. Cuts hard oak like butter.
