>>1165650>>1165723>>1165860>>1165890Of all the knives I've ever been /out/ with I always find myself coming back to my Opinel #8, I've had this one close to 14 years now and I can't complain about it. It's been abused, i wont lie but has laughed it off and because of how little they cost I do things with it I wouldn't dream of doing with something like my Fällkniven TK4
It's light weight, simple, robust (as long as you aren't part of the 'hurr-durr full tang clan', expecting to baton 15cm oak rounds with it) and easy to maintain. It's a knife, it cuts stuff. The blade geometry is versatile so it's as much at home whittling spoons as it is for food prep and even processing smaller wood for a fire lay. The handles are ergo af and don't create hotspots from prolonged use.
Sure it's not the most flashy blade steel, or space age materials (though they do offer a polymer grip range of some models and all sizes have the option of a nice mid range stainless steel as well as the carbon) but it's remained pretty unchanged for near 130 years BECAUSE IT FUCKING WORKS.
For the less than tenner they cost to buy it's practical, featherweight (47g) and inexpensive option pack with you knife wise.
