If you don't cut it all the way to the roots and remove them, it'll just spring back within a month or two. Grows like absolute mad. I have a bunch along my fence line and I cut the shit out of it every year and it just keeps coming back. I even dumped my wood pile on top of the old stump and it still just grew up through the wood pile.
At least I have a source of firewood.
