Anyone know any interesting algae to culture? I'm doing common ones currently- chlorella vulgaris, pyrocystis fusiformis (bioluminescent fun!), Spirulina (stupid easy to grow), Nanocholropsis Oculata, Isochrysis galbana and Porphyridium cruentum. All the greens are doing great.
I found several vendors with a ton of additional strains. I was looking at Closterium because of the neat cell shape, and was just curious if anyone had any other types of algae they like.

Same as gardening... trying to learn to do it well. And they do have purposes such as food uses and fluorescent dyes. Though it's mainly just a hobby for me. They can be very easy to propagate. You put a couple ml in a gallon grow tank and shortly later you have enough algae to start hundreds of gallons of grow tanks.

I'm enjoying it more than watching cabbage moths eat my plants. No pests. Fun to setup. Interesting to maintain optimum growth conditions (salt ppm, ph, temp, etc.) And I have 4 aquariums so I can use the algae as feed sometimes if needed.
