>>1301992it's nice and mellow. two 12 mile days. whoever starts at onion valley has a hell of a lot less uphill to do (but doesn't get much acclimation time-th is right at 9000', iirc). we did it in late september, and conditions were perfect: great hiking weather, a bit of frost over night, no bugs, minimal people (there were dayhikers in sight pretty much the whole way from onion valley to kearsarge pass, but as soon as we dropped over the pass we were an hour+ between encountering anyone else). beautiful campsites smack in the middle where the east lake trail intersects the bubbs creak trail, right below mt. bago.
i love one nighters, because you can glamp the hell out of them; we brought fresh chicken for curry and a bunch of beer.
