I know a couple years ago there was a great looking deal for 400 acres of both forested and cleared land with a house and a creek about an hour west of Quesnel. I forget how much they were charging but it was well below 200k.
I think your best bet for practical homesteading would be somewhere in those regions though. The land is still a lot more affordable than southern BC while the climate isn't as bad as northern BC and with lots of timber and plentiful game and a decent agricultural climate you could do quite nicely. Especially if you are willing to live an hour or more away from town.
