On the one hand, I absolutely understand where he was coming from: to escape from the artificial burdens of society and a troubled past by going /out/ is a nice idea. On the other hand, he was a dumbass in the worst ways and didn't do the proper research, prep, and learning before setting out. He shouldn't be romanticized, but he should be used as an unfortunate example of not respecting Nature enough to think you could just go out there and expect to live in her bosom without learning anything about her.
In a way I respect him because he did what I still haven't had the balls to do, but the fact remains that he did it in the entirely wrong way and for that I can't help but get a bit angry when I think about how he fucked up.
