I decided it was time to dig up one of the burdock roots [Arctium minus] (aka "gobo"), to see how they've been doing. This one is about 22"/56cm long. I had to use a post hole digger next to it in order to dig it up without breaking it. It looks like I'll be harvesting the rest soonish. They certinally need to be in a really tall mound of soil to make digging easier, but with the post hole digger, it isn't much of a problem.
