>>1223498>why the fuck is this in NY state? lolLong Lake fits a lot of criteria for a good /out/ meet-up I think..which is not true many other places in the Northeast.
>In midst of a large wilderness mountain range (ADK High Peaks Wilderness Area)>Large body of water with good fishing- great pike, SM bass, trout- and wildlife viewing- Loons, Owls, even Bear and Moose.>Protected from wind by mountains and with mostly public land/ wilderness area along length of shoreline >Geographic center of ADK Park (6.1 million acres- larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier, Grand Canyon and Smokey Mountains COMBINED). >At the northern-most end of a 9 mile long lake, only access to which is at the southern end, hence the site is very quiet and very wild, secluded, remote, private, etc. You must either boat or hike 8+ miles to get to where we're camping. If the Adirondacks have a "back country," northern Long Lake and the western High Peaks are it. >Numerous campsites with either Lean-tos or primitive sites along shoreline, lots of back-up sites to camp at if the primary doesn't work out. >Opportunity to either boat or hike to the siteIn regards to firearms...I love guns and have many that NY State doesn't like, but I think this is more a meetup to chill, have some beers, socialize with other /out/doorsmen. I don't need to show off my arsenal of ARs (which is actually pretty foolish). There's a time and place for guns and I don't think large gatherings of strangers, some of whom are tipsy or new to guns, is it. People are welcome to bring them but advised to be extremely responsible about it, regardless of the politics/laws of the state we're at. I really don't want to have to worry about people becoming a liability, or attracting attention to the site, firing off shots when people don't have ear-pro on or there's some poor anon collecting firewood in the vicinity beyond a target. If waving guns around is your priority go to a /k/ meet-up at an actual gun range.
