WV has the highest average elevation of any state east of the Miss.
It is mostly set up as mountains in the far east fading into high plateau then lower plateau as you head west. Compared to the relatively flatter plains and piedmont that mid atlantic cities occupy, it is a delight terrain-wise to watch the constantly undulating hills go past.
Also, it isn't nearly as hyped up as Alaska, Colorado, or California so national and international tourism is comparatively minimal and most of the tourists are local or regional.
There are incredibly dense, lush forests atop the eastern portion of the allegheny front that represent some of the most northern extent of unglaciated, sub-alpine terrain.
Its sort of the border betwern northern-type and southern-type eastern us mountain forests and has aspects of both.
