You can back splice a rope and don't need to carry superglue or a lighter to burn the ends every time you need a piece.
For those of you who buy paracord, please reconsider. Learn to handle a rope properly and the world will become your oyster.
To recap, if you can splice (which you need to know), and tie a minimum of four knots (overhand, bowline, clove hitch and square knot), with rope, you can and will be able to do just about anything you need to...within reason.
