It's always "california this" and "colorado that" but outside of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway during summer and fall, there's acres of uncrowded state parks, state forests, national forests and other local and regional scenic gems of lush deciduous forest to be enjoyed.
