>>1344160>>1344317Those studies are flawed as fuck. A mountain bike's tracks have less than half the surface area of a hiker's boots. The tires also slip when accelerating or braking. They cause ruts in the trail. Maybe overall erosion of a trail isn't impacted more by mountain bikers than by hikers, but take a look at this image and tell me mountain bikers don't fuck up the texture of a trail.
