Friends,
I've got a black walnut tree in the backyard, and I'm ready to take it out. The squirrels absolutely destroy the nuts every year it has them, and the tree is picked clean by the time they'd actually be ready to harvest.
The other major problem with black walnut is the juglones in the bark, meat, leaves and roots. I've read it can take up five years for the roots to break down and stop poisoning the surrounding soil.
If I wanted to plant some fruit trees after the walnut is gone, is there anything I can do to amend the soil aside from waiting for 5+ years?
