This was an interesting area. At the base of the mountain the was an 300 foot inclined shaft and concrete foundation where winches and other machinery had been. This lower area was the oldest part of the mine, and as the ore ran out down here, miners started mining the mountain. they piled waste rock around the lower area since they were no longer digging there. They must have covered a few vertical shafts. As time went on the collar of this vertical shaft collapsed and reopened one of the vertical shafts. I would have loved to see the collar collapse and this large hole open up. Hole is about 40 feet across.
