It’s quite literally a tradition passed down by individual tribe and even more so with the (new to us) concept of family nucleation, so it could quite literally be different depending on who you talk to. I know a handful of people who like blending with kinnikinnick or sumac berries but it still doesn’t improve the flavor if you’re using rustica. My best results come from peatier soil with a bit of riverbed sand mixed in to the point where you’ve got a rich black dirt. No need to add (((MiracleGro))) or whatever they sell at Walmart. Just water and good sunlight.
