Spent the summer in northern Alaska, on the Porcupine river just downstream from Old Crow, Yukon Territories. There is an island right on the international border where I spent the summer. Took a stroll around the river enjoying the changing leaves, which began their color change before mid-August. Further north, out of the river valley, the tundra is turning red and is sprinkled with the yellows, oranges, and greens of other trees and shrubs. Flying above it in a helicopter is really quite amazing, especially with the caribou slowly trickling in from the north and west and joining up to form bigger and bigger herds.
