>on the more "tentish" side of the spectrum. This is the main issue with the bivys that are meant to be stand alone. They were never really meant to be used outside of an alpine enviroment. So they suffer from bad condesation issues. They are also fucking miserable to ride a storm out in.
>Has anyone got any recommendations for such bivvy bags? I strongly suggest looking into using a small tarp combined with a splash bivy, look at the MLD superlight, borah gear, or katabatic bristel cone. Then any tarp, anything smaller than 8.5'x5' is going to be not much use. This set up is versatile, packable, and light.
>Sleeping without a tentThis is really a bonus experience that you can enjoy when the conditions allow. Is not something you can get away with in everypart of the world, any time of year. If you are heading out you should always carry some form of shelter.
Pic realted. This is a bivy bag and 9'x6' tarp. Mini bottles for some idea of scale. This system is suitable for almost all 3 season situations. The obvious exceptions being very exposed and windy areas.
