Anons, I need your help.
I've been fishing for a while now, but am a filthy casual. As a result, I don't actually know much about why I do the things I do when I'm fishing.
AliExpress had a event where you could win prizes, and I won some fishing line for very cheap - but now I have to choose which one I want and I know fuckall about line, so I came here to ask for advice.
I have three items that I won and options for two of them:
- Nylon Monofilament Copolymer line: Green, 0.45mm-25lbs or brown, either 0.38mm-17lbs, 0.4mm-20lbs, 0.45mm-25lbs or 0.48mm-30lbs
- Braided in grey or green, picrel are the options for grey, green only has 0.48mm-50lbs
My issue is I don't know what strength and diameter line I need at all.
I use a 3000 spinning reel and fish in rivers almost exclusively (the german Rhine). My primary setup is a running coffin lead (40g) with a swivel and hook with bait, though rarely we use other stuff too. I don't really catch much, (except goby because those fuckers are everywhere), roach, rudd, sometimes bass. Once got a pike (with a soft paddle tail though) and occasionally people get pikeperch here as well as carp, bream or chub. There's also a lot of catfish, but you have to aim for those to catch them.
What size line do I need for what usecase? How do I decide what diameter and strength is needed? I feel overwhelmed as shit and all the articles and videos I opened seem to just reiterate the differences between mono, braid and fluorcarbon rather than the size and strength.
Also one last question: The things you put on the fishing rod, in my case the lead, swivel and hook, how do you call them together? There's a term for that in german: Montage, which means the "system" you use for fishing basically, and mine is called "grundmontage" as in "system for fishing at the ground of the body of water". Is there an equivalent term in english? Because I tried and found nothing.
