>>1274793Doable although you will need to drop a lot of the conceptions you currently have. I have looked into this. You will need to ditch the plants idea completely unless you want to buy land. In which case: congrats, you can live in a cottage the size of a boat. Build it yourself!.
If you are undeterred:
You need a slip. You just do. Around here (expensive big city), a slip for a big ol sailboat is about half of the rent for a 2br apartment. You need to have a large budget, either in money or in time and hard work, for maintenance. And boats are seriously fucking high maintenance. Saltwater corrodes everything over time, so you have to replace shit constantly--all of it. The wood pieces, the metal pieces... all of it. You have to bring the ship out of water to paint its bottom every year or two. All of this stuff is way cheaper in 3rd world countries where labor is cheap, but it still costs money. Learn to code and work remote! Or if you can't just go to Australasia or SA, you can do it yourself depending on how you value your time.
As for "living on the sea" I've been on short trips in the ocean, not sailing. Being on a boat for long periods of time will drive you Tom Hanks in Castaway crazy. You'll drive your partner crazy. Or you're both crazy people and you bond together. IDK how that works. Boats are expensive, because if you already have a mortgage, getting a boat is like paying rent on a second apartment. So either: be high income, and have people maintain and repair your boat for you, or, be middle income (ie, you need to have a fucking job) and spend a big chunk of your free time working on your boat. The big upside of living on board a sailboat is that it is oceanfront property for cheap. And you can sail your house around.
If you just want to be on the water, join a sailboat club. Pay a surprisingly small fee, sail other people's boats. Many of them will have people dedicated to the craft that will take you along on big trips. gl
