In reality a stranger with a knife will always be a bit scary thing and some people will always freak out. It doesn't matter what your knife is or how non-threateningly you handle it.
Of course there are some exceptions that really do scare people, take Buck 119 for example. Is that a reason not to buy that knife? Hell no.
