We are going to replace a large flower bed with gravel so I'm using the shitty soil to raise a few sections of the lawn next to sidewalks that got foam jacked last year.
The soil went in the flower bed 25 years ago and never got any amendments so its just a fine silt with little organic matter. We'd rototill it once a year to plant and it would quickly setup hard after one or two rains. It was filled with clumps of clay so I had to screen it.
I had to raise the edge of the lawn 4" which took many wheelbarrows full of dirt. Then I had created another ridge further in, so I had to peel back some more grass to smooth the transition.
The rock is where a sprinkler head is. I'm going to raise the head before filling that spot. I have a few smaller spots to raise tomorrow.
