Ideally, you don't use a short spear and instead you use a throwing spear javelin. With those you don't want guards stopping the penetration. The spear head goes in, buries itself, and the animal's thrashing helps the spear head slice up the insides creating more hemorrhaging. Short spears with guards are intended to only enter the body 6-8 inches then get removed quickly without getting stuck, hence the guard on many of those in that style. The thing where you read about people planting the end of the spear in the ground then raising it up so the boar impales itself on the spear tip is almost 100% fiction and a very good way to get gored to hell and back. That is only done against calvery charges when there's shield walls involved.

Most of those questions are better asked or searched for on the website maintained by the people in charge of that specific WMA. Not all of them have the same rules. The easiest thing you can do is track them to whatever watering holes they normally use. Personally, I'd rather use a treestand for hogs unless the blind will be quite a ways away from where the hogs are supposed to be. Like over on the next hill. You may be able to kill the one you are shooting, but what about the others and their temperament?

There's a classic story about a boar hunt, where the hunters are treed by a humongous sounder of wild boars. The boars chew the trees until the trees fall over and they eat the hunters. I can't remember the name and googling seems useless.
