Something I've found which works pretty well is making a loop in the braid, and having your leaders (typically under 12" and usually a heavier mono) include a swivel at the back and a snap swivel at the front. I don't tie the leader just pass the loop through the swivel, then the whole leader through the loop. You swap them out by pulling the braid loop back through. It's a pain when it's dark or cold to grab that little braid loop but it's better than retying.
I still find a 10 pound braid to 8lb fluoro leader knot is small enough to cast well, you should give it a try.
