>>150440>>150381You'll want to eventually move up to a speargun, since there are many species of fish that will simply not allow you to get closer than 10' to them, and if you don't have the underwater topography/fish density to support lying in wait on a rock then you won't catch them. There are also lots of open/mid water fish like mackerel that this applies to. They make polespears/handspears that are larger than 10' but they are really unweildy and honestly more dangerous when around others than a speargun.
You should still hunt for about a year with a polespear/handspear though since it will teach you to sneak up on fish, otherwise you won't learn with a speargun and you'll plateu in terms of what you can catch pretty quickly.
