I don't actually think that Striped Bass is actually a Bass subspecies. I could be wrong, and I was initially under the impression it was related to the Bass family, but there was a long discussion about it on /out/ about 11 months ago, and pretty sure it was argued that they aren't actually Bass.

Broke my Solstice today, kind of bummed but it was a $40 reel, and the stradic spools I got for free don't make me feel so bad about it. Just gottta watch where I'm stepping when climbing down rocks with a fishing rod. Probably pick the same reel up at walmart over the next week or so. I like the reel and it works really well for a $40 reel, hell it survived a 38 inch striper and handled enough 20lb mono for a brackish river. [someone bet me I couldn't reel in a striper with it, I almost lost the bet]
