its monkey man rules now, eye contact dictates your strength, too little and you are oblivious game, too much/too soon and your a challange, try and time it, so its questionable which type of target you are and leave the area
for rough sleepers who notice you display temporary, for those who hunt you display
suicidal fight or flight they have the homeground advantage and always numbers... i have always charged and gotten within elbows reach no one trains for this distance or has experience with it, their allies struggle due to friendly fire, your target must collapse and you run.... this doesnt work with mexicans just be fit and out run, they dont even want to rob you they actually want to murder you... these days with BLM i would say they too are now in this category if your white

midlayer must look worn but not allowed to become rags these are what most people will see you wearing
the best back pack is just a metal frame with straps, an attached bag with a water resistant material draped over it
one of your first pieces of kit to break on you will be your bag
Have dedicated dry socks for sleeping ONLY
raspberry pi with a little screen and external battery makes a great solar chargeable laptop
sleeping out of cover is safer
