K890 should theoretically exceed it's toughness, with less corrosion resistance, but there's nothing out there yet en masse to see proof of concept irl
V4E or Cruwear if you favor edge retention over toughness but still tough compared to most steels

Just making tent stakes, feather sticks, and splitting small pieces of wood, yes, wholly unnecessary, just get a 14C28N knife and it's fine for sub $100
If you are going into an environment where you need something that can handle extreme abuse, not break, and still be able to cut, then it isn't overpriced if your life depends on it
It just depends on your needs
Same goes with any piece of gear
Some people a tarp works just fine, some people need a shelter for extreme environments and will get a Hilleberg
