>>1036142It started out for me with adventure. I loved getting out and experiencing the wild, running around wildly, really getting a 'mystical' feeling from it all. Started doing a lot of psychedelics in the woods, that lead me to a much deeper bond to the wilderness and nature.
Quite the opposite of the hippy I used to be, but now the reason I get /out/ is for the challenge and isolation. I love the physical and mental challenges you can be thrown into out there, walking through the deeps woods alone. Keeps me away from society, clears my mind, lets me get in touch with my primitive side - I love being able to look at the mountains in the horizon, seeing those peaks towering over me and knowing I've climbed from the bottom to the top. It's a really great mental boost to me, helps me push onward and take on greater projects in my every day life.
Trail Running and hiking are also very important to me now more than ever since I've quit smoking cigarettes. I can go further and smell more than I used to be able to, and that knowledge of going further / higher / longer etc. keeps me from picking up the habit again. Smoked since I was 11, I'm 25 now, for a bit of context on why it's so important to me.
