2. The area calculation they used is approximately 3861 sq miles. Which is significantly larger than Eastern US counties on average and smaller than most western US counties. This means smaller counties would statistically get a higher calculation value in relation to a larger county with the same or more species.
3. They don't link or cite catalog or research data or how the data was internally calculated or post total species counts or catalogs (only internally calculated values attributed to each county/region interpreted from whatever their source data was).
