but i'll give you your example, or a few, since you think my argument hinges upon it; firearms, fountain pens, hand tools, the motor vehicle, the x86 processor. the US has a rich history of invention with competitive and expert manufacturing. the US still produces some of these well in some capacity, but it's only diminishing as it gets harder.
