The only thing hard about the PCT is that you come into contact with civilization less frequently, which makes the logistics of resupplies a bit tougher.
The AT is WAY more difficult physically. You gain nearly 200,000ft more elevation than the PCT and it's a shorter trail too. Which means there are lots of steep climbs, none of that switchback nonsense you see out west. Eastern trails are also way more rugged than out west.
