I have a question.
I know very little about compound bows. I ended up being given a pair of compound bows from a friend who got them from a friend who was throwing them out. Neither of the bows have drawstrings and, from what I can tell, they're around 20-30 years old.

I took them to a local archery shop to see if I could get them restrung with his bow press but the owner told me "he couldn't because they were old and safety reasons" then walked away to help another customer before I could ask him any questions. They then sat in my house for the last couple of months.
Is it safe to restring? Are the fiberglass limbs likely to break? Why couldn't he restring them? If I can't restring them is there anything I could do with them, like modify them into longbows?
