The trick is the cold water. It does two things. First, it shocks the coffee and forces the grounds to the bottom. Second, it adds extra water so nobody has to drink the "last" cup. If you're really scared of grounds add an extra cup at the begining in addition to the cold one at the end. Also pour the coffee into your cup slowly, just let it skim off the top rather than dumping it it.

My reusable K-cup forgot to clean itself a nd got gross so I made coffee using this method this morning. Turned out fine. I drank 4 cups, only got a few grounds in the 4th cup.
