>>2776526i'm not beating the stupid allegations (see photo) but i think it's even dumber to think riding trains is actually unavoidably dangerous
>>2776708yard workers largely don't give a shit and will even help you out, yard cops used to be pretty gnarly knowing they could pretty much get away with whatever they wanted with beating up some homeless kid but with phones and everything now I think it's a lot less intense.
a lot of cops kind of get a kick out of it as long as you don't make yourself a problem - I've even had friends have cops help them out and bring them by water. most will still lean on the aggro/power-tripping side, but they won't beat you and generally you'll get treated worse if you get caught shoplifting or vandalizing than just riding a train, maybe because hoboes are in a way ingrained within americana. if the railroad calls it in, you're definitely getting kicked off the train and likely brought to the station, maybe booked for a night. pretty hard to catch anything more than a misdemeanor trespass or two, if you don't have priors they're likely to get dropped.
>>2776715largely accurate assumptions. most of the weird treatment comes from cops not really knowing what to make of you or whatever prejudices of whatever kind of bum they see you as rather than particular hostility towards the egregious offense of riding on a train without permission.
