>>281822> mfw I have hiked 100's of GC miles. > mfw I'm no Harvey Butchart.> mfw seeing Royal Arch via Point Huitzel Route and return South Bass trail.> op travel and arrive friday night, return to PHX sunday nightWhat I would do is be ready by thursday and I mean everything.
Sneak outa work before traffic ties up northbound I17.
Go to the Backcountry Office and get a
walkup permit, if it's open when you arrive.
Try for Hermit's Rest, it's a great "Threshold" overnighter for newbies.
Stay at Mather Campground friday night.
Leave your vehical in the Backcountry Office parking lot, it's right by the gate of the road to Hermit's Rest, catch shuttle to trailhead.
Hike in sat morning. Take side trail to Ribbon Falls. Water here, @ Santa Maria Spring & Hermit's Creek, so don't overload on water.
Pick campsite, drop packs.
Hike to river and check Hermit's Rapids, hike back.
Setup camp. Chill. Drink whisky. Tent fuck before bedtime.
Suday morning, tent fuck at sunrise. Breakfast.
Hike out early. It's quicker than it seems, the cobblestone section is easier going up than down, at least for me. I've hiked out in a few hours.
Eat at Wendy's in Tusayan, also like The Pine Country Cafe in Williams, if you can wait that long.
Drive back to Mordor sunday afternoon.
Hit the bar and grill in Mund's Park for a beer, I can also suggest thier pizza. Now you're just stalling.
Monday, slave mode.
If the permits are full for Hermit's Rest, try Monument Creek, another threshold campsite. Stay away from the Corridor, I never any more.
Housreshoe Mesa is your fall back, but also great as it's via Grandview Trail, so you'll have that.
Pic related from last Sept. Rained evdryday! Nice!
