Everyone in your "gang" needs to be on board with men only and, unfortunately, it's probably a majority of men that don't get that. They think having women around isn't a big deal or that it's gay not to have them around.
Why do you think up until TV killed society men would go to Masonic lodges, elk lodges etc.? It was a way to ritualistically have gatherings of men with no women butting in.
They knew that was something to protect before the era of gay suspicion.
