the handle is just a hickory handle i bought from Home Depo, i looked at all the handles and this was the one with the best grain. after an hour or two of file and chisel work, the head was securely fixed to the haft. before i began shaping i scraped all [almost all] of the varnish or polyurethane off the hickory. after i finished with the fitting i blackened all the clean wood with a blow torch, rubbed it with some light sandpaper and a towel, then sealed it with BLO. then i soaked the axe head side of the ensamble in BLO to swell the grain of the wood.
