as for the machetes, if you are using it as a machete it doesn't matter what you have, machetes are for clearing light brush. if you try and use one in place of a clever type copping knife for chopping wood and whatnot it will bend, chip and break. machetes are a unitasker where a large fixed blade is your on stop go to tool
if you ask good ol' daddy Nessmuk he'd tell you the ideal setup is a hatchet for heavy chopping (double faces head), a twin bladed folding knife and a mid to large fix blade
hatchets are a matter of personal preference really, so you get a pass on that. i personally prefer the Fiskars
