Soon enough it was Lunchtime. I stopped briefly in a little glade next to Goose Pond. Every so often, usually in the saddles between peaks, you get these beautiful, quiet areas of pines, clear of underbrush. I took to calling these areas "Sanctuaries". They often had a cooling breeze and the wonderfully clean smell of Juniper, perfect for resting a while before the next sharp uphill climb to the ridgeline.
