>>457334for a survival longarm if only one can be chosen a 12 gauge pump shotgun is without a doubt the hands down winner. i've found slugs to be accurate enough. if a pissed off brown bear was coming at me slugs are perfect for the job. not to mention all the different loads out there which allow the 12 gauge to reliably kill anything from squirrels (without blowing it the fuck up and having no meat to eat) to the aforementioned brown bear.
>>453850this guy was saying to carry two pistols instead of one rifle or shotgun. 2 revolvers wouldnt weigh more then one rifle or shotgun. the versatility of 22lr revolver and 357 or 44 mag revolver would be something to consider. i would prefer too go the 2 revolver route simply because for the same weight as 20 birdshot i can have a shit ton of 22lr. in a survival situation someone is going to be relying more heavily on small game (squirrel, rabbit, racoon, etc.) for food, as it is simply more abundant. so a handful of 357/44 mag would be sufficient. with a heritage rough rider revolver you can also swap out the cylinder so you can shoot 22lr or 22mag for a bit more versatility.
