>>1923837Is it on the bottom or top of the eye? A gap either way isn't the end of the world, especially on a hatchet, but the dead space will allow it to loosen over time. A gap on the bottom of the eye is a better situation than on top however, and some manufacturers will push them through QC in that state (I've seen quite a few G Bruks on the shelf with a gap on the bottom of the eye). A gap on the top can be fixed with a longer wedge (see pic related), but you could probably take your hatchet, turn it upside down, hit the bottom of the palm swell with a hammer to move the head further down, and add a step wedge to lock it in place. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to loosen.
