Although I would probably recommend using cotton wicks for oil candles and saving the birthday candles for the shortening type candle. If you can scrounge some twist ties they are super easy to make. The birthday candles in the oil are kind of finicky. The fall over if you move the candle. Cotton balls work great, but those little disposable Cotton makeup pads work amazing. They take like ten seconds to cut into a wick and you can get a pack of 30 for a dollar.
