>>1759097Nah. There's a region called Hortobágy, which is basically the Westernmost extension of the steppe, but the Great Plain itself was forested until the Medieval Ages. Then it was cut down, then the fields got abandoned for 150 years during the Ottoman wars, then the new forests were cut down again.
Beech, birch and oak were the dominant trees. The areas around the Danube and Tisza had different ecological systems, due to the constant flooding of the river and the swampy terrain. These were also destroyed during the 19. century, when the Danube got regulated. Some of these areas still exist around Tisza, though.
