that's really all it works down to. It's not a dealbreaker if you have the wrong units, it's just slightly less convenient and you need to some some more mental math.
besides, most maps have scales in both km/miles, it's just the squares used to divide the maps may be metric/imperial so it's a minor inconvenience at worst.
