Here's how I use my bandana: as a makeshift dittybag for my cook kit, to keep the lid on and not rattling in my bag, to keep the soot from getting on my other gear and the inside of my bag, as an ovenmitt so I can lift the pot off the fire, foraging bowl, and as a washcloth for the dishes after I eat. I've got a second bandana in my wash kit for my face and body, to use as a kerchief, mask, temperature regulator, condensation towel inside the tent, or whatever. The shemaugh would be too bulky for all this, compared to the bandana. I don't live in a desert area, and don't need a sand mask.
I don't want to argue or fight, Anon. I can totally see the functionality of a shemaugh. Were you in the military?
