>>455072I agree with the other anons, make some compost. If anything it will help your soil, while also keeping trash out of landfills. You only need a small area to do it.
Just create an enclosure for the compost to sit in, like cinderblock or wood, or if you want just leave it in a big open heap. Just make sure you tend to it once in a while so it doesn't spread out. Pic related, I have my compost heap in cinderblock with chicken wire around it (to keep my dogs out) and just a pallet in the front with a stake to hold it up. It's so easy.
You might want a base to help with drainage. I just put a few crisscrossed sticks down.
Once in a while you should turn it. This helps aerate the pile and make everything decompose faster and evenly. I use the yellow thing which is meant for tilling dirt to turn the pile and make everything light and fluffy (and I use a shovel sometimes to get everything mixed up good).
Again you don't really have to do these things, it just makes the process faster and much better. Throw everything in a big pile if you want, whatever. It depends on your individual wants and needs.
After a while you could start a New pile, which is what I did (the right side). This gives the old pile a chance to decompose everything without adding New material to it. So everything gets decomposed evenly.
To make your life a little easier it's a good idea to get an old wheelbarrow and place it next to your backdoor. This is where you throw everything before wheeling it to the compost pile. It saves lots of trips. Just ate an orange? Okay, open the door and toss in the Orange peel. Then when it's full, just wheel it back and dump it. I use a small brush/broom to get everything out, makes it easier.
