I am a boatless pleb that is sick of creeping around the shore acquiring ticks. I want to get a long steelhead rod with conventional reel and cast really far out into the lake from the comfort of the beach. Kind of like surfcasting, but for walleye bass and panfish. Planning to use swimbaits, bottom jigs, and jig/bobber.
1. Are there even any fish like 100 yards off of a featureless lake shore? I don't know the depth but it's probably like 10 feet deep flats and nowhere near the channel. Nobody really fishes there. I don't care if it's suboptimal but I don't want to just waste my time.
2. Can you even cast a 1/4 to 1/2 oz bait that far?
3. I picked this piscifun reel because it was cheap and holds plenty of line. I prefer baitcasters for aesthetic reasons, but I hate the cheap chinky rough feeling ones. It looks smooth enough to cast light weights from the youtube reviews. I already have a Kastking Zephyr but I don't like the quality so I want to stay away from that style of baitcaster in the low end. I would rather get a shimano but I can't justify spending the money on such a whimsical venture. Open to suggestions I guess, but not spinning.
4. Reality check: on a scale of 1-10 how retarded is this?
