I would say the majority of bow hunters are more ethical than gun hunters. Simply because they have to get closer to have a shot. The bow hunters I know also tend to practice much more than rifle shooters since a bow at 15-40 yards is more involved than shooting a rifle at 70-200 yards. I might just have good luck for friends but I don't hunt with people that don't consider the accuracy of their shot and the speed of the animals death.
If you are interested in bow hunting I suggest you get a bow as soon as you can if you intend to hunt this fall. I shoot almost every day i summer but I have a large yard and enjoy shooting. But you should shoot like once or twice a week for a couple months to get comfortable before you try to take a deer. I really can't condone head shots even with a gun. I have taken a neck shot with my bow but that is a bit different.
